This is a totally new event on the national scene, an interactive programme for parents whose children undergo a balneotherapic treatment. The “School of Atopy” consists of a group of physicians (dermatologists, paediatricians and psychotherapists) who, through meetings, supply of educational material, videos, etc., inform and instruct parents on how to interact with children who suffer from atopic dermatitis.
Lessons are divided in two parts: one part is devoted to information (on hygiene, environment, clothes, treatments) to give parents a background of practical suggestions on how to treat the disease on everyday life, and the other is based on the psychological approach necessary to remove any doubts and offer a solution to the problems in connection with the application of the procedures, reflect on approaches and contacts and the emotional difficulties caused by a chronic skin pathology. Our experience, confirmed by other advanced countries such as Germany, proved that the “School of Atopy” ensures a real improvement in the way of life of both patients and their families. A “School of Psoriasis” has also been created in the aim of suggesting pharmacologic treatments and proper ways of life in connection with the extent of the disease and its risks. The course is completed by the indication of effective treatments and the role of thermal therapy.
